SKIN EXAMINATION

SPOT CHECK

If you do have a specific mole, lesion, non healing sore, itchy, tender area, which bleeds or had bled, please inform reception  at time of appointment.

Dr Nada will most likely need to do a biopsy after a dermascopic examination and need to deal with this active concern immediately then rebook you for a total body skin cancer examination which can take up to 30 minutes.

SKIN EXAMINATION AND BIOPSY

Diagnosis of a skin cancer relies on a thorough past history of skin cancer and skin cancer risk factors, family history of melanoma and non melanoma skin cancer, your general health and medication and a dermascopic examination.

At the end of assessment, Dr Nada will be able to advise you of a Provisional Diagnosis, this means she will provide you with a clinical diagnosis needing conformation by biopsy.

Most often a skin biopsy of part of a lesion is performed or a complete lesion needs to be removed. This is called an excision biopsy.

This is done under a small amount of local anaesthetic and a very fine gauge needle.

Sometimes for your comfort, Dr Nada will apply EMLAS cream (numbing cream) to sites such as nose, lips and other more sensitive areas prior to injecting a local anaesthetic.

The biopsy sample is sent off to pathology for confirmation of diagnosis  and takes about 3-5 days for a report.

A copy can be sent to your GP with your permission.

Dr Rohde’s reception will contact you when the report had been finalised for a follow up appointment.

Dr Rohde will call you if the report suggests Melanoma diagnosis.

FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT

Usually depends on result of your biopsy.

Our receptionist will call you to arrange an appropriate time needed and expected surgery required.

All patients are provided a post surgical appointment for a dressing change at no extra cost.

A screening appointment interval will be advised at the end of your initial appointment and risk assessment.
